DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, December 21. The World Food Programme (WFP) provided humanitarian assistance to 547,057 people in Tajikistan in November 2023, Trend reports.
This assistance was almost evenly distributed, with 51 percent allocated to men and 49 percent to women. A total of 2,099 tons of food were distributed, as well as cash-based transfers amounting to $50,906.
"The WFP continues to provide technical support to the Tajikistan's Ministry of Education and Science in implementing the State Programme on Development of School Feeding (SFP). In November, WFP conducted on-job trainings on SFP implementation in state-funded schools in Khatlon region for the representatives of education, finance departments and school principles," the organization said.
Since 1993, WFP has been actively involved in Tajikistan and is currently operating under the Country Strategic Plan (2023-2026), initiated in January 2023.
This strategic plan outlines specific objectives for the upcoming years, aiming to enhance the livelihoods, resilience, and adaptive capacities of food-insecure and vulnerable populations in both urban and rural areas. The plan focuses on improving climate-resilient and nutrition-sensitive agricultural and food value chains by 2026.
