USAID eyes expanding support to modernizing Turkmenistan’s livestock sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept. 10

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

USAID (United States Agency for International Development) is planning to expand its support to modernizing and improving efficiencies of the livestock sector of Turkmenistan, USAID told Trend.

According to the information, USAID is collaborating with the government of Turkmenistan and the private sector to unleash the country’s economic potential.

It is noted that USAID activities increase the capacity of the private sector to compete internationally, and export goods globally, particularly in the agriculture sector.

Also, USAID works closely with the government of Turkmenistan and the private sector to ensure water resources are better managed, and renewable energy sources are better integrated into the Turkmen economy.

“USAID is planning to expand its support to modernizing and improving efficiencies of the livestock sectors and is ready to support the government of Turkmenistan’s efforts to increase its digital economy footprint,” USAID said.

In addition, it was noted that since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, USAID has contributed over one million US dollars to promote community awareness through UNICEF and the International Federation of Red Crescent Society, and to provide scientific evidence for decision makers through the WHO.

It was also noted that in Turkmenistan, USAID has been collaborating with local partners to increase access to both domestic and international sources of investment.

“Recently, USAID collaborated with the Union of Economists of Turkmenistan in training companies on how best to access venture financing. We also created opportunities for local entrepreneurs to meet and interact with potential investors,” USAID said.

Lastly, USAID is currently engaging the Government of Turkmenistan in developing the legal framework for startups and to further develop the local market for venture financing.
