BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 1. Turkmen farmers plan to establish cooperation with local tanneries in order to produce ostrich leather, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen media.
According to information, at the moment about 1000 ostriches live on a farm located in the south of the country. Although more recently, last year, the first hundred of these birds were imported from Türkiye.
Conditions for breeding chicks have been created for them on an area of 5,000 hectares, and every day they bring up to 85 eggs, which are then placed in an incubator. Now 400 ostriches are growing up on the farm.
In addition to the production of ostrich skin, Turkmen entrepreneurs will be able to provide markets with ostrich meat and eggs, as well as establish exports abroad.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan's first ostrich farm located on the outskirts of the city of Ashgabat was founded in 1997.
