The Republican Road Fund under the Finance Ministry of Uzbekistan signed a contract worth $139 million with the Uzbek-Spanish Consortium for the reconstruction of the 58-kilometer section of "Tashkent-Osh" (A-373) highway, passing through Kamchik pass and connecting the country's center with the Fergana Valley, the Fund said.

The consortium led by Spanish Corviam Construccion SA won the tender for the reconstruction of the section of the pass, announced in March 2011. In addition to the Spanish company, the consortium included Uzbek JSC "Eletrotarmokkurilish" ("Elektrostrosistema").

As it was previously reported, Uzbekistan plans to reconstruct the 74-kilometer section of highway (from 116 to 190 km) with the replacement of two-lane asphalt pavement with a four-lane cement and concrete pavement. The project is worth $211.3 million

The project will be funded through a loan of Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the amount of $167.2 million and funds of the Republican Road Fund in the amount of $44.1 million.

In addition to the 58-km section, which will be reconstructed by the Uzbek-Spanish consortium, the remaining 16 km of the road will be reconstructed by Uzbek contractor Uzavtodor. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2014.
