The Eurasian Economic Union (EAU) and Uzbekistan will hold consultations on starting the negotiations on creating a free trade zone, Russian President Vladimir Putin said following the talks with Uzbek President Islam Karimov, RIA Novosti reported.
"We have agreed to start the consultations on the possible signing of an agreement on a free trade zone between Uzbekistan and EAU," said Putin.
The Eurasian Economic Union is an economic union, which is being created as part of the Eurasian integration on the basis of the Customs Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus starting from Jan. 1, 2015.
The post-Soviet countries have started the cooperation in interstate integration in the sphere of economy since late 1990s. Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan signed a Treaty on the Customs Union and a Common Economic Space on Feb.26, 1999.
