Uzbek health ministry reveals funds spent on combating COVID-19

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 8

Some four trillion soums ($375.5 million) were spent on financing measures to combat the spread of coronavirus infection in 2020, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.

Thus, according to the Uzbek government's report, the following funds were spent on:

construction, reconstruction, and overhaul of social facilities – 3.4 trillion soums ($325 million);

financial support for enterprises – 2.5 trillion soums ($239 million);

expanding social support for the population – 1.3 trillion soums ($124 million);

construction of healthcare facilities and necessary infrastructure – 1.2 trillion soums ($115 million);

covering losses of local budgets and the pension fund – 595 billion soums ($57 million).

Also, according to the State Committee of Uzbekistan for Tourism Development, 82 trillion soums ($7.8 billion) have been allocated by the state to eliminate the consequences of the pandemic. In particular, an Anti-Crisis Fund has been created, and more than 12.8 trillion soums ($1.2 billion) have been allocated from the budget for measures to combat coronavirus, support the population and business.

In addition, state-owned enterprises and more than 500,000 enterprises, and about eight million citizens received practical assistance in tax breaks, an extension of loans, and financial support for a total of 66 trillion soums ($6.3 billion).

Moreover, over one trillion soums ($95 million) have been provided to more than 800,000 low-income families within the framework of the national movement "Generosity and Support".
