ADB to strengthen economic management in Uzbekistan

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 26. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will strengthen economic management in Uzbekistan, which will help to develop financial management and improve the efficiency of state-owned enterprises; ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa said this at the opening of the first Tashkent International Investment Forum, Trend reports.

"Our bank is aimed at accelerating Uzbekistan's transition to a market economy. We also seek to reduce the state's involvement in financial intermediation, improve access to infrastructure and social services," Asakawa said.

According to him, the bank will also improve service delivery to citizens and create additional fiscal space for public investment.

According to the president of the bank, in recent years, ADB has contributed to the country's energy sector, generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, supported the energy sector reform program, agricultural development, contributed to the creation of 5,000 jobs, improved infrastructure services, supported a housing program under which 43,000 buildings were constructed.
