BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19. Uzbekistan envisages the commissioning of new power plants with total capacities of 1,474 MW in 2022, the spokeswoman of the Uzbek Ministry of Energy Elmira Bekmurodova told Trend.

“By the end of this year, seven new stations will be put into operation in the country, of which six are thermal (TPP) and one solar photovoltaic power plant (PVP),” Bekmurodova said.

According to her, two new thermal power plants were put into operation in January 2022 with a capacity of 270 MW in Bukhara and 240 MW in the Tashkent regions. The third station was launched in early March, with a capacity of 174 MW, built in the Khorezm region.

“These three power plants generate a total of 5.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. Due to the introduction of energy-saving equipment and technologies, 725 million cubic meters of natural gas per year will be saved,” Bekmurodova said.

She also noted that with the saved natural gas an additional 2.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity will be generated.

“At the end of March, two more new thermal power plants with a total capacity of 470 MW were put into operation in the Tashkent region. And by December 2022, another TPP with a capacity of 220 MW will be commissioned in the Syrdarya region," the spokeswoman said.

Bekmurodova said that by April it is planned to launch a solar photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 100 MW in the Samarkand region. As a result, the total capacity of the energy system of Uzbekistan will exceed 16,000 MW.
