BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 23. Over 118,000 cars were sold in Uzbekistan during the first month of 2023, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

Car sales in Uzbekistan increased by 20 percent, compared to the figure for January 2022.

Sales of new cars produced in Uzbekistan since the beginning of the year totaled 23,400 units (an increase of 2 percent), while sales of new foreign-made cars reached 2,500 with an increase of 60 percent.

Some 92,000 cars were sold on the secondary market in January 2023, which is 24 percent more than in the same period last year.

Significant car sales growth was recorded in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand region – 85 percent, Fergana region – 44 percent, and Namangan region – 31 percent.

Meanwhile, among car buyers in Uzbekistan, there is a growing interest in buying electric vehicles. In January 2023, Uzbek citizens bought some 431 units of e-vehicles.

This figure increased by 85 percent or 198 cars. The largest number of e-vehicles was sold in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent – 319 units, followed by the Tashkent region – 44 units and the Fergana region – 13 units.

Due to the growing demand for the purchase of e-vehicles among Uzbek citizens. Uzbekistan has imported 2,180 units of electric vehicles worth $69.8 million from January through December 2022. The figure has increased by 1,371 units of electric vehicles or 2.7 times compared to the same period in 2021. China was the leading electric vehicle-importing country for Uzbekistan in 2022 - 1,941 units.
