BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 6. Uzbekistan has exported 8,500 tons of pomegranates worth $8.5 million from January through March 2023, Trend reports via Uzbek State Statistics Committee.
The country’s pomegranate exports in the reporting period increased by 41.6 percent, compared to the same period in 2022 (6,000 tons worth $6.6 million).
The largest volume of pomegranates is harvested in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Fergana, and Sidaryo regions.
In 2022, Uzbekistan exported 21,600 tons of pomegranates worth $19.8 million, increasing by 2,200 tons, compared to 2021.
During the relevant period, Uzbekistan sent the largest volume of pomegranates to Russia (10,900 tons), followed by Kazakhstan (5,800 tons), Tajikistan (3,000 tons), Kyrgyzstan (1,500 tons), Belarus (120 tons), and South Korea (95 tons).
Meanwhile, from January through March 2023, Uzbekistan overall exported 217,600 tons of fruit and vegetables, which is a decrease by 1.2 times or 41,400 tons, compared to the reporting period in 2022.
