BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 26. Uzbekistan plans to increase the volume of silk product exports up to $110 million, Trend reports.

The issue was discussed at a meeting between the representatives of the Uzbekipaksanoat association of silk producers and the Embassy and Consulates of Uzbekistan in China and Türkiye.

According to the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to China, Uzbek silk products are in great demand in the Chinese market. In this regard, it is necessary to attract new partners and implement investment projects. This will be helped by holding training seminars and exhibitions of finished products of the silk industry.

In turn, the Consul General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul said that in Bursa (Türkiye's fourth largest city after Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir) there is a silk pavilion where it is available to organize an exhibition of Uzbek silk produce. Such expositions will be beneficial for entrepreneurs of both countries.

To increase export volumes, the proposal involves attracting new investors for joint projects and organizing exhibitions where new buyers for Uzbek silk products can be found.

For reference, about 5-6 years ago, Uzbekistan exported silk products worth $20 million, and by 2022, this figure had increased to $100 million.

At the same time, according to Uzbekipaksanoat, by 2026, exports of silk products from Uzbekistan will reach $191.8 million, which is $104.3 million more than in 2021. Some 623.2 million mulberry seedlings will be planted in 2022-2026 to develop the silkworm feed base.
