(dpa) - Iran Monday confirmed the expulsion of a Swedish diplomat for acting contrary to diplomatic norms, without giving further details.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini confirmed the move, reportedly made at the end of last month, in in his weekly press briefing in Tehran.
The diplomat's expulsion is seen as a tit-for-tat action by Tehran against expulsion of an Iranian diplomat from Stockholm earlier this year.
Tehran-Stockholm relations have been strained recently after Iranian authorities prevented woman activist Parvin Ardalan from leaving the country to receive the 2007 Palme Prize in Sweden.
Iran last January expelled a German attaché following the expulsion of an Iranian diplomat from Germany.
