UN Resident Coordinator: Iran obtains millennium development goals before timetable
The United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC) Consuelo Vidal described Iran as one of the countries which achieved goals of the millennium development before the scheduled time, ISNA reported.
She made the remark in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi in Tehran on Wednesday where the two sides discussed the UN measures in Iran.
During the meeting, Salehi said Iran is ready to work with the UN representatives in the country to complywith its commitments.
Iranian Chief Diplomat also highlighted realities in Iran and called for presenting a real image of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the world.
Vidal on her part called Iran's participation in the UN projects "pretty appropriate" and said Iran has obtained goals of millennium development before the time table.
A UNRC is the highest United Nations official and the chief of UN diplomatic mission in a country (except when there is a mission of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations or similar, in which case the Special Representative of the Secretary-General is the highest official).
It confers the same rank as an Ambassador of a foreign state. The resident coordinator is the designated representative of the UN secretary general and leader of United Nations Country Team of Agencies such as (UNICEF, WHO, WFP).
The function is usually performed by the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program.
The Resident Coordinator system encompasses all organizations of the United Nations system dealing with operational activities for development, regardless of their formal presence in the country.
