Iran expands its shipping capacity

Iran's oil fleet capacity has reached 11 million tons and its container capacity is 50 times more than before Iran's revolution, Fars news agency reports.

With 5800 kilometres of coastline and 11 major ports, Iran is in a good position to transport goods, Seyed Ataollah Sadr, the managing director of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organisation (PMO) told Fars.

Iran's port capacity was 19 million tons at the start of the revolution. It stands at 165 million tons today, said Mr. Sadr who was in the Persian Gulf city of Bushehr for the inauguration of port projects.

The country's container capacity stands at five million, 50 times more than the 100,000 before the revolution.
