Slightly more than 8.2 million tons of goods have passed through Iran's transit borders in the first 10 months of the year, a 2.6 percent increase over the same period of last year, the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) reported.
Iran's solar year ends on March 20.
Iran has 24 border terminals and 11 sea ports for goods to transit through, said Shahriar Affandizadeh, the head of Iran's Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization.
The Persian Gulf city of Bandar Abbas is Iran's biggest point of entry for goods and the Imam Khomeini port serves as the country's biggest exit point.
One of the Iran's most important eastern transit points is the Sarakhs terminal, Mr. Affandizadeh said. The absence of a border bridge with Turkmenistan and the lack of commercial centers have to be addressed at this checkpoint.
