The construction operations of a large railway with the length of 450 kilometers, extending from Shiraz to Assalouyeh, south of Iran, started on Wednesday, with the estimated cost of 10 trillion rials (some $820 million).
"The project is the first of its kind which will be implemented through financing by the private sector," Mehr news agency quoted the deputy roads and urban development minister Ahmad Sadeqi as saying.
Some 25,000 kilometers of railway is in operation across the country, he said, adding that by the next two years all the country's provinces will be connected together through the railroad network.
