Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman welcomed appointment of Barham Salih as new president of Iraq, IRNA reports.
Bahram Qasemi expressed hope that the relations between Iran and Iraq would develop.
He also hoped that ties lead to developing friendship between the two countries and reinforcing cooperation in regional and international levels which can make economic welfare for the two nations.
Saleh became Iraq’s president after he failed to win the post in 2014. He is the third president of Iraq after the fall of Iraq's dictator Saddam Hussein.
In his first address after being elected, he said that he would be committed to constitutional law, preserve territorial integrity and independence of Iraq.
