Iran exported over $83.11 billion worth of saffron in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 - September 22).
The weight of exported saffron in the mentioned six-month period stood at 58 million metric tons.
The figures show 22.8 and 22.5 percent increase in terms of weight and value, respectively, compared to same period previous year, Iran's ISNA News Agency reported on October 11.
The United Arab Emirates, Spain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Australia, and Canada were the main importers of Iranian saffron.
Iran's total saffron exports in the current year (to end March 20, 2015) are expected to reach 150 million metric tons.
The country's total saffron output is also projected to hit 300 million metric tons by the end of year.
