Iran's Bandar Abbas refinery will produce 14 million liters of euro-5 gasoline and diesel in the next Iranian calendar year, starting on March 21.

Hamid Sharif Razi, the manager of project for boosting Bandar Abbas refinery's gasoline output, said six million liters of gasoline and 7.95 million liters of diesel will be produced by the refinery, Iran's IRNA news agency reported on Jan. 28.

The refinery started production in 1997 with 232,000 barrels annual output, which was boosted to 320,000 barrels in 2004.

Bandar Abbas Oil Refining Company performs refining operations. Additionally it produces oil byproducts such as liquid gas, lead-free super gasoline, jet fuel, white oil, variety of dissolvers, gas oil, variety of the raw material for grease, fuel oil, bitumen, different kinds of petroleum, kerosene, asphalt, and sulphur.

Iran used to import 40 percent of its needed gasoline by 2009. But, the international sanctions forced it to produce gasoline domestically through adding lead or some poisonous chemical catalysts such as MTBE to the product. MTBE is a highly poisonous substance which causes cancer. It is banned worldwide to be used for gasoline production.

The administration of President Hassan Rouhani ordered to stop the distribution of substandard gasoline.
