By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Iran is currently the largest foreign market for Chinese-made Huawei phones, said Xu Zhijun, the company's Chief Strategy and Marketing Officer.
Last year, Huawei sold around 5 million mobile phones in Iran, Iran's Fars news agency quoted Xu as saying June 12.
"Huawei brand is well-known in Iran and we are planning to expand our markets," he said, adding that next to China, Iran is the company's biggest customer.
"Huawei started marketing for tablets later than marketing for phones. We are analyzing the market in order to find out in which section we can boost the power of competition," he said.
The Iranian markets need some 14 million mobile phones annually, he noted.
Smart phones hold 60 percent share of the Iranian mobile phone market. Over 20 million of Iran's 78 million people are smart phone users, Khosrow Ghobadi, an official with Iran's Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research said June 10.
Considering the fact that Iran's mobile network's penetration rate is almost 100 percent, mobile phones are the most pervasive media in Iran, Ghobadi said.
The official further said that the number of the smart phone users is forecasted to reach 40 million by March 2016.
