By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

The Iranian refineries averagely have refined 1.83 million barrels of crude oil and gas condensates per day since March 20, Shahrokh Khosrovani, deputy head of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), said.

The country’s oil refining capacity currently stands at 1.85 million barrels per day (mbpd), Khosrovani said, the oil ministry’s SHANA news agency reported June 18.

He further said that Iran Plans to increase its oil refining capacity to 3.2 mbpd by completing development initiatives by 2020.

The country’s refining capacity will witness an increase by 70 percent once new refinery projects including the Persian Gulf Star(360,000 bpd of condensates), Siraf condensate refinery complex(480,000 bpd of condensates), Anahita refinery(150,000 bpd), Bahmangenoo(300,000 bpd) and Pars(120,000 bpd) come in stream, he said.

Khosrovani added that projects also are underway for upgrading Isfahan, Tabriz, Tehran, Bandar Abbas and Abadan refineries, which will increase the performance of the refineries, decreasing the fuel oil output below 10 percent of the total refining capacity.

Iran plans to decrease the share of fuel oil production from the total refining capacity which is about 27 percent at the moment.

The country is the world’s third major fuel oil producer, which indicates low performance of the country’s refineries.
