Iran is required to properly enforce regulations on anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) in order to establish banking ties with the world, an Iranian financial official said.
Farshad Heydari, deputy for supervisory affairs at the Central Bank of Iran, has called on the government to introduce a new bill on AML/CFT, IRNA news agency reported.
Heydari also urged parliament to enhance the existing bills regarding combating the financing of terrorism as well as the anti-money laundering.
He further said that the country’s banks and also judiciary have to make sure the regulations are properly implemented.
Earlier First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) David Lipton during his three-day visit to Tehran said described restructuring banks and strengthening the framework for anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) as two important priorities for Iran.
