Iran has exported $100 million worth of handmade carpets to the US since January.
The head of an Iranian association for carpet exporters, Mojtaba Araqchi, has said that $100 million worth of handmade carpets was exported to the US following the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPA/ nuclear deal) Jan. 16, ISNA news agency reported.
According to the official, the amount formed one-third of Iran’s total carpet exports in the mentioned period.
Saying that the US accounted for 40 percent of Iran’s carpet exports before imposing international sanctions on the Islamic Republic, he added that Iran's spot was overtaken by India during the sanctions era.
He further described India, Pakistan and Afghanistan as Iran’s main rivals in exporting handmade carpets.
