Iran, France sign MoU to co-op in railway sector

Iran’s Railways Company and French National Railways (or SNCF) signed a memorandum of understanding to accelerate mutual cooperation.

Based on the document, the two sides will establish six working groups for cooperation in developing high speed rail lines, station service, suburban train lines and providing advisory support for restructuring Iranian Railways Company, Iran’s IRIB news agency reported.

The signed document follows a cooperation protocol ‎signed in January 2016 in Paris between the two companies‎ covering four areas, including station operations and high speed rail development.‎

The two companies agreed to collaborate in the development of urban and suburban transport, long distance high speed lines, twinning programs between French and Iranian railway stations, as well as station operations.

Iran’s long-term investment in its transport system is reported to be 50 billion euros, 20 billion of which will be spent till 2025 in the areas of freight, urban transport and high speed lines.
