Iran’s cargo transit volume via railways reached 950,000 tons during the first 10.5 months of the current Iranian fiscal year (which started March 20, 2016), Hossein Ashouri, director of the Transit Committee at the Islamic Republic Railways, said.
The Iranian railways has set a satisfactory record in transference of goods in current Iranian year as relocation of fertilizers, mazut and aluminum grew by 20, 200 and 20 percent, respectively, Ashouri said, Mehr news agency reported.
He further said that transit of wood products from Turkey to Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan has also increased by 52 percent year-on-year.
Ashouri added that the Islamic Republic Railways transits cotton from Uzbekistan, fuel oil from Turkmenistan and aluminum from Tajikistan to Iranian southern port of Bandar Abbas.
Iran transits foods, edible oils, sugar and detergents from its southern ports to the Central Asian countries, he said, adding that the transit volume of the mentioned goods during the 10.5-month period remained unchanged compared to the same period of the preceding year.
Ashouri said that volume of sulfur transit has significantly decreased as Turkmenistan has halted transit of sulfur due to sharp fall of the product’s price.
