Iran reports increase in iron ore concentrate production

Iran’s major state-run iron ore companies produced about 15.608 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the first five months of the current fiscal year (March 20-Aug. 22).

The figure indicates a 23 percent increase compared to the preceding year, the Islamic Republic’s Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) reported on Oct. 16.

Gol Gohar Iron Ore Co. ranked first producing 5.623 million tons of iron ore concentrate, followed by Chadormalou with 3.566 million tons of output.

Markazi (2.09 million tons), Middle East Mine Industries Development Holding Company (1.563 million tons), Gohar Zamin (1.814 million tons) and Sangan (840,350 tons) were among the other leading iron ore concentrate producers.

The report didn’t include the volume of iron ore produced by private sector companies, which produce a total of 14 million tons of iron ore annually.

The aforementioned companies produced a total of 2.35 million tons of iron ore granule in the first five months of the current fiscal year (a 9 percent fall year-on-year).

Iran’s total iron ore reserve stands at 5.1 billion tons, of which 2.8 billion tons are proven.
