Iran exports new dairy cargo to Russia

Iran exported over $163,410 worth of dairy products to Russia through the Astara border checkpoint, Bahram Pourzarb, head of Astara Veterinary Bureau, said.

The cargo, including 32,682 kilograms of cream and cheese, was sent to Russia Feb. 28, Pourzarb said, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.

The cargo was shipped from Iran’s northern Mazandaran province, he added.

The official further said that during the current fiscal year (started March 2017) over 669 tons of cream cheese, 1,740 kilograms of cream, 143 tons of trout, and 143 tons of powdered milk were exported to Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Iran exported $2,274.1 million worth of agricultural and food products in the first half of the current fiscal year (started March 2017), 3 percent less year-on-year.

Over $52.4 million worth of food products were exported to Russia in the period.

Astara is on Iran’s border with Azerbaijan and is the country’s door to Central Asia and the Caucasus.
