Iran hopes to expand oil co-op with Azerbaijan

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh has expressed hopes that his county and Azerbaijan will finalize an agreement for expansion of cooperation in the oil sector in the near future.

Speaking at a meeting with the visiting Azerbaijani economy minister, Shahin Mustafayev, the Iranian oil minister described the ongoing talks between the two countries in the oil sector as positive, IRNA news agency reported.

He further forecasted that the sides would reach the agreement during President Hassan Rouhani’s expected visit to Baku in late March.

The minister also added that the National Iranian Oil Company has put cooperation with State-oil company of Azerbaijan, SOCAR, under international regulations.

An Azerbaijani delegation led by the economy minister and co-chairman of the State Commission for Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in the economic, trade and humanitarian spheres, Shahin Mustafayev, has arrived in Tehran on a two-day visit.
