Tehran, Iran, May 19

The Iranian energy minister said 120 German firms, including the country’s engineering giant Siemens, will continue their activities in Iran like before despite the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.
“The activities of 120 German firms will go on in Iran and Siemens will continue to honor its contractual terms with Iran,” Reza Ardakanian said on May 18 after a meeting with Peter Altmaier, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, in Berlin.
The German side gave us assurances that the European country’s firms will continue to abide by their commitments in Iran after US President Donald Trump refused to keep Washington in the nuclear agreement, the minister added.
The two sides further discussed ways to enhance their mutual ties in various fields, particularly economy, and agreed to set up a joint economic commission in the near future, ILNA news agency reported.
The meeting came after Trump, in a speech from the White House last week, accused Iran of sponsoring terrorism and seeking nukes before announcing the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
Following the controversial decision, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran weighs plans to remain in the agreement with the other five parties, namely Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany, provided that the remaining JCPOA parties ensure its full benefits for Iran.
