Indonesia - top origin of Iran’s aquarium fish import

Iran imported 63 tons of aquarium fishes, worth 1.853 million in the last fiscal year, ended March 20, according to the Iranian customs administration data.

The value of the imported aquarium fishes registered a rise by 55 percent compared to the preceding year.

Indonesia, Thailand, China and Malaysia were the main origins of Iran’s imports. Over half of Iran’s salt water and fresh water aquarium fish imports came from Indonesia. The Islamic Republic imported 37 tons of aquarium fishes, worth $914,316 from the southeast Asian country.

Iran cultivated 220 million of aquarium fishes in the last fiscal year. Isfahan and Markazi provinces had the highest share from the output.

Iran’s fishery sector aims to reach the planned output of 1.6 million tons by 2022, under the sixth five-year economic development plan (39 percent more than the current level).

Iran’s overall fishery exports reached 123,000 tons, worth $500 million in the last fiscal year. The value of the country’s aquarium fishes export accounted to $3 million.

The country’s fishery exports in the fiscal year to March 20, 2017 accounted for $412 million.
