Loading/unloading of staple foods at Iranian ports falls

Iranian ports witnessed unloading 1,124 million tons of staple food during the last calendar month (ended Aug. 22).

According to the latest data released by Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization, the figure has decreased by 20.5 percent compared to the preceding month.

The food products mentioned in the report include wheat, barley, butter, soy, rice, sugar, cooking oil, and meat ‎products.

‎The country loaded and unloaded 1.249 million tons of food products at its ports in the one-month period, indicating a 29.4 percent decrease year-on-year.

The figure was 1.52 million tons in the preceding Iranian calendar month (July 21-Aug. 22).

In the meantime, the country loaded 124,665 tons of staple food products through the organization’s ports in the period, compared to 109,989 tons in the preceding month.

According to the report, 18 ports - Abadan, Astara, Arvandkenar, Imam Khomeini, Amirabad, Anzali, Bushehr, Tiab, Jask, Chabahar, Chavibdeh, Khorramshahr, Dayyer, Shahid Bahonar, Shahid Rajaee, Qeshm, Lengeh and Noshahr - were involved in loading/unloading of staple food products during the period.

The report also unveiled that over 527,448 tons of fertilizers and chemicals were loaded/unloaded at Iranian ports, which was 20.7 percent more compared to the same month of the preceding year. The volume of the unloaded fertilizers and chemicals was 35,361 tons in the one-month period from July 21 to August 22, 2018.

The Ports and Maritime Organization also said that 87,286 tons of clothes, fibers, paper and wood were loaded/unloaded at Iranian ports in the one-month period, which was 21.8 percent less year-on-year. The volume of the unloaded clothes, fibers, paper and wood was 86,278 tons in the same span of time.

Iranian ports saw loading and unloading of a total of 10.82 million tons of various goods and commodities, including food and metal products between July 22 to Aug. 22, 20.2 percent less year-on-year.

The volume for the 5-month period of the current fiscal year was 59.05 million tons.

In total, over 153 million tons of various goods were loaded/unloaded at Iranian ports during the last fiscal year, including 46.7 million tons of oil products. The volume is 5.5 percent more than the loaded/unloaded products in the preceding year.
