Water consumption from Iran’s Lake Urmia has increased by 3 billion cubic meters since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and this is very dangerous, Managing Director of Iran Water Resources Management Company Mohammad Hajj-Rasouliha said in an interview with ILNA.

He said that sowing areas have increased so far by about 300,000 hectares.

"If 10 cubic meters of water are used per hectare, 3 billion cubic meters of water are additionally consumed from Lake Urmia," he noted.

He said the issue of saving the lake is also related to the farmers’ welfare, and these two problems cannot be separated.
