Iran expects to harvest over 30,000 tons of cotton in its Ardabil province in the northwest of the country, Deputy Director of Ardabil Agricultural Jihad Organization Ahmad Sahriyar said, Trend reports citing IRNA.
The area of the cotton fields in Ardabil's Mughan zone has increased by 130 percent to 7,750 hectares, the deputy director said.
Thanks to the amount of the cotton to be harvested, 10 waste processing plants will start operating in the sector, Shahriyar said.
So far, no fixed price has been announced to buy cotton from farmers, the deputy director said, adding the each kilogram of cotton is expected to be purchased for 60,000 rials (roughly $1.42).
