BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 9. Iran increased its imports from Turkmenistan by 62.4 percent in value, reaching $36.3 million, in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through February 19, 2024), compared to the same period last year, Trend reports.
However, the volume of imports decreased by 6.6 percent, amounting to 29,900 tons, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).
The figures show a contrast with the same period last year, when Iran imported 32,000 tons of goods worth $22.4 million from Turkmenistan.
The main items imported to Iran were petroleum coke, cotton, fabric, and others.
During the 11th month alone (January 21,2024 through February 19, 2024), Iran imported 900 tons of goods worth $2 million from Turkmenistan.
The IRICA's latest data shows that Iran’s overall imports stood at 35.8 million tons, worth $59.9 billion, in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year, representing an 11.1 percent increase in value and a 6.4 percent increase in volume year-on-year.
In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
