Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has met with his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev in Astana.

The two sides discussed possible ways to boost bilateral ties, as well as regional and international issues, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported on Sept. 9.

The presidents are expected to sign a number of memorandums of understanding later today.

Rouhani is in Kazakhstan's capital Astana on the first leg of his five-day tour of central Asia. He is heading a high-ranking economic and diplomatic delegation.

The Iranian president will later head to Tajikistan for a three-day visit where he will attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
