Tehran, Iran, May 13
By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:
The Iranian Ministry of Defense in a statement criticized Saudi Arabia and the US for attacking and isolating Yemen.
The statement comes as response to the Pentagon which had called Iran's dispatch of humanitarian aid to the war-torn Yemen an adventurous and provocative move, according to the Iranian Defense Ministry's website which posted the statement on May 13.
The US is war crime complicit for supporting the genocide in Yemen while Iran's humanitarian aid of food and drugs is a move to soothe the pains of the suppressed people of Yemen, the announcement reads.
The Iranian Defense Ministry also rejected an initiative by the Pentagon for carrying the aid through the Port of Djibouti as unacceptable, raising doubt that doing so will make sure the aid will get to the target population.
An Iranian ship carrying aid to Yemen should change course and head to Djibouti where the United Nations is overseeing humanitarian deliveries, Colonel Steven Warren, a Pentagon spokesman said on May 12.
The US military is tracking the ship after Tehran said it would send warships to escort the vessel to Yemen, Warren told reporters.
