Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 7

A senior Iranian military official has described the call for establishing ceasefire in the Syrian city of Aleppo as a “trick”.

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan has said that “terrorists” in Aleppo use residents as “human shield”, Mehr news agency reported Dec. 7.

Saying that the Syrian city currently is in a dire situation, he added that the call for establishing ceasefire is a “trick” aimed at reorganizing, strengthening and arming the “terrorist” groups.

Speaking at a meeting with Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in Tehran, he added that the attempts to establish ceasefire in Aleppo do not follow humanitarian purposes, but reorganizing the terrorists.

The Iranian official criticizing Saudi Arabia for striking civilians in Yemen called on the international community to help resolve the regional crises.

In turn, Peter Maurer urged Iran to contribute to resolving the crises in Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

While Syrian government troops are continuing their large-scale offensive in Aleppo, Russia and China have recently vetoed a draft resolution at the UN Security Council that called for a seven-day ceasefire in the Syrian city.
