Intense explosion in residential building in Iran leaves five dead

An explosion in a 2-story residential building in the Iranian northeastern city of Mashahd Sept. 4 left five persons dead.
The rescue operation ended early in morning on Sept. 5, Hossein Derakhshan, a spokesman with the Iranian Red Crescent Society said, Fars news agency reported.
Seven persons also were injured as a result of the blast, Derakhshan added.
The explosion which took place at 11:30 local time (GMT +4:30 hours) in the Resalat district in Mashhad, damaged 12 neighboring residences. It resulted in the total collapse of two buildings, meanwhile another residential building was damaged by 30 percent. Ten other houses also were partly damaged as a result of the blast.
The cause of the blast is being investigated.
