Prices and situation in consumer market in Azerbaijan (january-july 2015)

According to the State Statistics Committee, as of August 1, 2015, the Azerbaijani consumer market amounted to 18.355 billion manat, which is 11.4 percent more than its turnover for the same period of last year. The monthly consumer expenses are estimated at 275.9 manat per capita in January-July 2015 or by 34.8 manat more compared to January-July 2014.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the Azerbaijani trading networks sold consumer goods to the population at 13.979 billion manat in January-July 2015, which is 12.5 percent more than in the same period of 2014. Legal entities ensured 11.3 percent of trade turnover, individual entrepreneurs - 52.7 percent, fairs and markets - 35.8 percent.

The food trade (6.321 billion manat) increased by 11.9 percent from year to year in January-July 2015, while retail sales of non-food items (7.035 billion manat) - by 16.6 percent.

The retail sale volume of non-food items was bigger than food trade.

Over this period, every citizen of the country acquired consumer goods at 210.2 manat per month, which is 30 manat more than in January-July 2014.

Paid services worth 3.814 billion manat were rendered to the population in January-July 2015 or 6.7 percent more compared to January-July 2014. Legal entities ensured 55.3 percent of this growth and rendered the services worth 2.824 billion manat.

Each citizen bought paid services worth 57.3 manat per month in January-July 2015 or 3.5 manat more than in January-July 2014. Transportation, public utilities and communication services prevail in the structure of paid services. Besides improving the material condition, great using of paid services by the population is associated with the fact that the structure of rendered paid services is being improved. A network of companies is being developed in this sector.

Prices

According to the State Statistics Committee, the prices on consumer goods and tariffs on services decreased by 0.7 percent in July 2015 compared to the previous month. The inflation hit 3.7 percent in January-July 2015 compared to the same period of 2014.

The deflation hit 1.1 percent in Azerbaijan in June 2015, 0.6 percent in May and 0.2 percent in April.

The food prices decreased by 1.7 percent, non-food items and tariffs for services remained at the same level in Azerbaijan in July 2015 compared to the previous month.

The prices on beef, fish, butter, oranges, tangerines, bananas, apples, pears, cherries, sweet cherries, plums, cherry-plums, peaches, apricots, walnuts, hazelnuts, raisins, watermelons, melons, greens, pumpkins, sweet peppers, eggplants, beans, garlics, onions, carrots, potatoes, cabbages, cucumbers, tomatoes decreased in Azerbaijan within a month.

During this period the prices on rice, flour, chicken, macaroni, oats, barley, eggs, chestnuts, lemons, spirits increased.

The producer prices on several agricultural products decreased by 5.9 percent in Azerbaijan in July compared to the previous month. In particular, the production prices on annual and perennial plants decreased by 12.6 percent and 2 percent, beef, mutton, milk, sheep, goats, poultry - by 1.5 percent.

Among the annual plants, the producer prices on wheat, peas, cabbages, watermelons, melons, sweet peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, potatoes and onions declined, while the prices on non-fermented tobacco and feed crops increased.

Among the perennial plants, the prices on cherries, sweet cherries, strawberries, pears, blackberries increased. The prices on apples, apricots, cherry-plums, plums, hazelnuts, walnuts and bay leaves declined.

The prices on milk, sheep and goats, as well as beef, mutton and poultry reduced, while prices on poultry, eggs and natural honey increased.

The tariffs for passenger transportation in Azerbaijan's transport sector decreased by 2.2 percent in July 2015 compared to June.

The tariffs for cargo transportation decreased by 1.5 percent in July compared to June.

The tariffs for passenger transportation to the CIS countries by air decreased by 8.3 percent and other foreign countries - by 4.8 percent.

Last month, the tariffs for oil transportation by the pipelines decreased by 7.2 percent but gas transportation increased by 0.1 percent respectively. The tariffs for passenger transportation to the CIS countries by trains in July decreased by 7.2 percent.

The cargo transportation to the CIS countries and other international destinations by ships increased by 0.1 percent.

The tariffs for cargo and passenger transportation by vehicles remained at the same level in July.

In July, the base index of consumer prices, calculated except for the goods and services subject to seasonal changes (fruits and vegetables) and the prices of which are regulated by the state, remained at the same level compared to the previous month. The monetary inflation hit 3.9 percent compared to January-July 2014.

The industrial producer price index decreased by 6.1 percent in Azerbaijan in July 2015 compared to June. During this period, producer prices in the mining industry decreased by 7.1 percent.

The prices on oil and natural gas production in the reporting month decreased by 7.1 percent, metal ore mining - by 2 percent, the production of stone, sand, gravel, salt and other items - by 1.7 percent.

The producer prices reduced by 0.9 percent in the processing industry. The decline in prices in July was observed in the production of rubber and plastic items (3.9 percent), the production of chemical items (2.1 percent), the production of steel items (2 percent), the production of oil products (1.6 percent), the production of machinery and equipment (1.5 percent), the production of wood and wooden items (0.5 percent), the textile production (0.2 percent).

The rise in prices was observed in the installation of machinery, equipment and maintenance (8.5 percent), production of computers and other electronic equipment (2.4 percent), the production of finished steel items, except machinery and equipment (1.1 percent), production of beverages (1 percent), clothing production (0.9 percent), furniture and food production (0.2 percent), production of building materials and tobacco (0.1 percent) in July.
