Israeli F-16 warplanes carried out three airstrikes late Thursday the southern, central and northern Gaza Strip, with witnesses and medical sources reporting damage but no casualties in the attacks, dpa reported.

The witnesses said that an Israeli jet fired a missile at a training post belonging to al-Qassam Brigades, the Islamic Hamas movement's armed wing. The huge explosion damaged nearby houses.

According to the witnesses, one missile was fired at eastern Rafah town in southern Gaza and a second missile was fired in northern Gaza, both in agricultural areas. No injuries were reported.

Israeli airstrikes were a response to earlier attacks carried out by Gaza militants who fired homemade rockets into southern Israel, according to an Israeli army spokesman. No injuries were reported.

On Thursday morning, local paramedics recovered the bodies of two people who were killed late Wednesday by a shell fired from an Israeli army tank as the Palestinians approached the border between the northern Gaza Strip and Israel.
