President of Syria Bashar al-Assad on Monday met Chairman of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Jakob Kellenberger and the accompanying delegation,SANA reported.
During the meeting, Kellenberger thanked President al-Assad for the cooperation and facilitations provided by the Syrian government to the delegation and providing access to various Syrian cities and area to evaluate the situation in them and visiting detention centers.
President al-Assad stressed the importance of direct examination of the situation in Syria, particularly in light of the massive media distortion of these facts. He also welcomed the Committee's work as long as it remains independent and objective and is not politicized.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad, the Director of the International Organizations Directorate at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry, and Chairman of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Abdelrahman al-Attar.
