Syria defuses explosive device at Homs oil pipeline

The Syrian army Tuesday dismantled an explosive device planted under a pipeline transporting crude oil to the Homs refinery in northern Syria, the state-run Syrian news agency SANA said, reported dpa.

The agency, citing a military source, said the device contained 25 kilograms of TNT and was set to explode by a remote device.

The device was carefully prepared, camouflaged and placed in a manner to cause maximum damage to the pipeline, the report said.

The people behind such an act were "saboteurs trying to destabilize the country," the official report stated.

On July 29, a similar bomb exploded in the oil pipeline in Telkalakh area, causing a 15-metre crater and oil spill in the area.
