Fifteen al-Qaeda-linked militants were killed on Wednesday when planes raided their training camp in Southern Yemen, Arab media reported.

According to the Dubai-based Al Arabiya broadcaster, the airstrike targeted the suspected camp in the town of Jaar in the southern province of Abyan, dpa reported.

On Monday, 17 Al-Qaeda militants were killed during clashes with government forces south of the town of Loder.

Fighting has been raging in the province of Abyan since last week between Yemeni troops and militants from al-Qaeda.

Yemeni President Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi, who took office in February, has vowed to fight al-Qaeda, calling it a "national and religious duty."

Militants affiliated withe the al-Qaeda terrorist network have strengthened their foothold in southern Yemen, taking advantage of a year of political turmoil and a weak central government in the impoverished Arabian Peninsula country.
