A suicide bomber on Friday killed 12 people in an attack against Shiite rebels in northern Yemen, the state-run SABA news agency reported.
The attacker drove a car bomb into a gathering of Shiite rebels belonging to the Houthi group in al-Jawf province. A woman was among those killed, dpa quoted the agency as saying.
The Houthis, a Shiite minority led by Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, have fought six wars with governmetn forces since 2004 before signing a ceasefire agreement in 2010.
Tensions in northern Yemen pose a challenge to President Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi, who took office in February with a vow to restore security.
Violence between Sunni Salafists and the Houthis has been rising in northern Yemen.
