Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 25
By Anakhanum Khidayatova - Trend:
The US adheres to the "divide and rule" policy in the Middle East, Yusuf Cinar, the president of the Turkish International Research Center Strategic Outlook, told Trend Dec. 25.
"The US understands that Syria and Iraq will sooner or later fall apart as a result of the activity of the terrorist groups in these countries," he said.
The expert does not rule out that the US secretly supports the creation of new Sunni countries.
"The US will create a number of countries in the Middle East over the next five years," he said.
"The Kurdish administration in Northern Iraq under the leadership of Massoud Barzani wants to take advantage of this situation."
Cinar said that the independence of the Kurdish autonomy from the central government of Iraq is quite expected.
The Kurdish administration of Iraq is preparing to hold a referendum on the status of autonomy.
The head of the administration Massoud Barzani is expected to announce the date of the referendum in the near future.
