(dpa) - The military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement claimed responsibility Thursday for detonating a bomb next to an Israeli army jeep on the border of the Gaza Strip in the early morning, wounding two soldiers.
Witnesses said that a column of black smoke rose from the area following the sound of a blast and Israeli Apache helicopters hovered overhead, firing their machine guns from time to time.
In a statement sent to the media, the Islamic Jihad's armed wing said the explosion was to honour the memory of Yousef al-Simiri, an Islamic Jihad commander whom Israeli special forces killed early Wednesday in al-Garara village.
