Syrian tanks enter demilitarized zone in Golan Heights

Three Syrian tanks entered the demilitarized zone in the Israel-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday, Ynet news reported online, dpa reported.

The Israeli Army has complained to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the area that is enforcing a ceasefire, the report said.

The tanks entered Bir-Ajam village, which is near an Israeli military outpost, Ynet reported, to fight Syrian rebels.

In September, Israel complained to the UN observer mission after several mortar shells fired from Syria landed in the Golan Heights.

The Golan Heights, overlooking Syria and Lebanon, was captured by Israel from Syria in the 1967 Middle East War.
