UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Friday strongly condemned the suicide attack at a mosque in Iran that killed at least 27 people, dpa reported.
"This senseless act of terrorism at a place of worship makes it all the more reprehensible," a statement from Ban's spokesman said.
"The secretary-general extends his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Iran," it added.
Two bombs went off in the suicide attack at the mosque in Zahedan, in southeastern Iran, Thursday night. Authorities said an additional 167 people were injured and warned the death toll could rise.
