North Korean leader Kim Jong-il met Thursday with a top Chinese official on an apparent mission to defuse heightened tensions after the North's deadly artillery attack on a South Korean island, Yonhap reported.
Kim met with Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo and discussed moving friendly relations between the two countries forward, the North's official Korean Central News Agency reported. The report made no mention of the North's Nov. 23 shelling of the South's Yeonpyeong Island.
