German family minister pregnant with first child

German Family Minister Kristina Schroeder is pregnant with her first child, media reported Wednesday, DPA reported.

"It is true, we are expecting our first child in July," the 33-year-old minister told German daily Bild. She is married to Ole Schroeder, who is secretary of state in the Interior Ministry.

"We will then face the same challenges as many other couples in Germany, where both face high professional challenges. But we are confident that we will manage, with the support of our families," Schroeder said.

Schroeder, the youngest member of Chancellor Angela Merkel's government, was appointed family minister after the 2009 general election.
